It has been a principal subject of study since June 1973 for B.Sc. course. The department also started M.Sc. (Physics) course in 2015 and research center 2020. The department has successfully implemented the New Education Policy-2020 curriculum and offers B.Sc. Hons. degree.
Infrastructure and Facilities :
The department is equipped with five laboratories to facilitate teaching and research. A dedicated computer lab with internet access is also available for students and faculty. A small departmental library with two shelves of essential books provides a space for study and houses a collection of resources relevant to physics. Along with the college library, the books available in the department are additional quick access to the reference books to the students.
Academic Programs :
Undergraduate Course (B.Sc.): The curriculum includes elective courses in specialized fields such as Material Science, Nanotechnology, Energy Studies and Astrophysics along with the core subjects. The four year B.Sc. Hons is implemented under NEP 2020 with Physics as the major subject.
Postgraduate Course (M.Sc. in Physics): At the postgraduate level, students can specialize in Electronics, Energy Studies, Nano & Thin Films along with the core subjects.
Ph.D. Course: The department offers a Ph.D. program in Physics with research in Material Science, Physics of Nanoparticles and Energy Studies etc.
Faculty and Research :
The department has a team of dedicated and experienced faculty members for undergraduate teaching, postgraduate teaching and for guiding research students. Faculty members are actively engaged in research, publishing their work in reputable national and international journals and conferences proceedings. They have also secured development grants from prestigious organizations like the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), demonstrating their commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.
