Introduction:
The Hindi Department was started in 1970 at Modern College, Shivajinagar, Pune-05. Dr. Shrirang Sangoram was the first head of the Hindi Department in college. Dr. Sangoram was a well-known critic of Hindi literature, and he was also a scholar in classical music. He contributed to many literary, grammatical & musical terms. After Dr. Sangoram, Prof. B. G. Vani took charge of the Hindi Department, who contributed towards the department. He framed the working system of the department. He did manage the multifarious activities of the department single-handedly. From 2002 Prof. Sunita Purohit was continued activities at the department with the help of colleagues. She also aspired to the expansion of the department as a head. She introduced Hindi special for Under Graduate Students in 2005.
Today, the Hindi Department successfully conducts B. A. Hindi Special and General course and Ph.D research Centre which is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule, Pune University. Many scholars, like Dr. Aanandprakash Dixit, Prof. S. M. Shaha, Dr. Sunil Keshav Devdhar, Dr. Kanti Lodhi, Dr. Neela Borvankar etc. visited our Hindi Department for the sake of workshops, special lecture series, guest lectures and the programme of Hindi Diwas. The scholars from the fields of literature, education, media and others.
