Introduction


The Hindi Department was started in 1970 in Modern College, Shivajinagar, Pune-05. Dr. Shrirang  Sangoram was the first head of the Hindi Department in  college. Dr. Sangoram was well known critic of Hindi literature and he was also a scholar in classical music. He contributed to many literary, grammatical & musical terms. After Dr. Sangoram, Prof. B. G. Vani took the charge of Hindi Dept., who contributed towards the department. He framed the working system of the department. He did manage the multifarious activities of the department with single hand. From 2002 Prof. Sunita Purohit was continued activities at the department with the help of colleagues. She also aspired for the expansion of the department, as a head. She introduced Hindi special for Under Graduate Students in 2005. Now Dr. Prerana Ubale is working in Hindi Department with a new vision.

Today, the Hindi Department successfully conducts B. A.  Hindi Special and General course which is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule, Pune University. This year, some merit holder students from Mauritius also pursuing for Hindi Special Subject.

Many scholars like Dr. Aanandprakash Dixit, Prof. S. M. Shaha, Dr. Sunil Keshav Devdhar, Dr. Kanti Lodhi, Dr. Neela Borvankar etc. visited our Hindi Department for the sake of workshops, special lecture series, guest lectures and programme of Hindi Diwas. The scholar persons from the field of literature, education, media and other.
