Modern College staff and students file Indian Patent
The students and staff of Dept. of Biotechnology have achieved a milestone by filing for an Indian patent. Dr. Rebecca Thombre, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology is working on biosynthesis of nanoparticles and its applications in cancer. Her research work is funded by BCUD, Savitribai Phule Pune University and University Grants Commissions, New Delhi. A group of students worked under her guidance for two years and developed a process for synthesis of biostablized gold nanoparticles. Though this is not a cutting edge technology, However undergraduate students of B.Sc. Biotechnology could file this patent is the highlight of this work. The students are Atith Chitnis, Yash Bogawat, Rochelle Colaco and Vedant Kadam of T.Y.B.Sc. Biotechnology. The College has sponsored their patent application and has provided the necessary facilities and encouragement to the teachers and staff. The patent filed by the staff and students of Modern College is another feather in the cap of Modern College, Shivajinagar.
